"I began to implement speech rhythm activities at the beginning of guided reading sessions when exploring the tricky words that would appear in the books and also during phonics sessions for difficult or longer words. The speech rhythm activities have acted as another tool to use when reading for the pupils that struggled. They provide my pupils with alternative strategies and ideas to draw upon, other than segmentation and blending, to help them read. In addition, my pupils have found that these activities add a really fun and engaging element to reading, making them feel more at ease and less hesitant to read difficult, long or tricky words.

The activities from the Reading Planet Teacher's Guides, repeating activities clapping games and tricky word exercises helped to put children at ease in reading sessions and make reading less daunting."
