Previously Rising Stars and RS Assessment from Hodder Education
During the 2022/2023 school year, both White Rose 2.0 and 3.0 schemes of work will be available for schools to choose between. For our assessment customers who choose to use White Rose 3.0 this September (2022), we recognise that this means you’ll be revising the order in which you teach maths.
For schools who follow the sequencing exactly, these changes to the teaching order mean that some content in our termly maths assessments may fall ahead of when you now plan to teach it. You may therefore wish to review your order of teaching, or perhaps consider revised testing windows, allowing more time for content to be taught before reviewing pupil understanding.
We welcome feedback from schools, so please do get in touch with your local assessment consultant if you would like to discuss in more detail how to ensure you get the most out of our assessments. In the meantime, we have provided a breakdown of the impact of the White Rose 3.0 curriculum changes on our maths assessments, in order to support your choice in assessments and teaching order that work best for your school. Please do read our breakdown and discover how potential re-scheduling of your testing windows could minimise the impact of curriculum changes on your assessments.
NTS Maths Autumn: For NTS Maths users, Autumn coverage generally aligns to the sequencing detailed in White Rose 3.0 apart from in Year 2. NTS Assessments range between 45marks (Y2) and 80marks (Y3-Y6), so where a few marks of untaught content are included in a test, this should have minimal impact on the overall test score.
Tip: Reviewing your teaching order in Year 2 or delaying your Autumn testing window for Year 2 to mid-January (until after you have covered money) could make a substantial difference in ensuring the assessment is taken after the assessed content has been taught.
Suggested alternative testing window for Year 2: week 3 in January
NTS Maths Spring: For NTS Maths users, Spring coverage aligns closely to the sequencing detailed in White Rose 3.0, with four years matching (1, 4, 5, 6).
Tip: If delaying testing works in your school, the optimum delay would be to re-schedule your Spring testing window to 3 weeks into the Summer term, which would ensure all Spring tests are taken after the assessed content has been covered.
Suggested alternative testing window for Years 2, 3 and 5: week 3 in the Summer term
NTS Maths Summer: all summer tests assess the content taught during that year and prior years, so no matter the order of teaching you can continue to use our summer tests with confidence that the assessed content reflects the maths you’ve taught in your school.
New PUMA Autumn: For New PUMA users, the order detailed in White Rose 3.0 now means that some assessed content is sequenced for teaching in later terms.
New PUMA Spring: For New PUMA users, the order detailed in White Rose 3.0 now means that some assessed content is sequenced for teaching in later terms.
Tip: If delaying testing works in your school, the optimum delay would be to re-schedule your Spring testing window to 3 weeks into the Summer term, which would ensure they are taken after the assessed content has been covered. This would have particularly impact in Year 3, but across all years would reduce content in tests that hasn’t yet been taught to 0-4 marks.
Suggested alternative testing window for all Years: week 3 in the Summer term
New PUMA Summer: all summer tests assess the content taught during that year and prior years, so no matter the order of teaching you can continue to use our summer tests with confidence that the assessed content reflects the maths you’ve taught in your school.
