PUMA Key Stage 3

Termly standardised assessments to measure and
predict progress at Key Stage 3

Progress in Understanding Mathematics Assessment (PUMA) KS3 is a suite of standardised termly tests that enable schools to reliably measure performance against national averages. Already used in 3,500 primary schools and now available for KS3, these tests help to:

  • monitor progress as pupils develop the knowledge and skills they need for GCSE
  • see how groups of pupils are performing against other pupils nationally
  • gain reliable diagnostic and predictive information to inform teaching

Discounts available for large cohorts. Contact your local consultant for details.

Curriculum maps included

PUMA KS3 works alongside any KS3 maths scheme. Curriculum maps are provided to summarise which topics are covered in each test. This enables schools to check that they have taught all content covered in each test.

Download the curriculum maps here.

What diagnostic information will the tests provide?

  • Standardised scores - compare students' scores with the national average
  • Age-standardised scores - see how students are doing against students of the same age
  • Mathematics ages - see ability based on typical performance of a student at a particular age
  • Hodder scale scores - monitor progress and predict future performance
  • Performance indicators - see if attainment is above, below, or within the national average

MARK (My Assessment and Reporting Kit)

PUMA KS3 is supported by MARK, which will enable you to enter your students' test scores and automatically generate reports by pupil, group or class.

  • See how a student has performed compared to others of his/her age or year group nationally
  • Provide evidence of whether studenst have made good progress across the key stage
  • Instantly see gaps in knowledge to inform teaching
