Changing the Story: A Reading Programme created by Hachette UK and the National Literacy Trust

About the programme

In 2021, Hachette UK and the National Literacy Trust launched an important reading and literacy initiative: the Changing the Story Programme. Through this partnership, more than 22,000 books from the Reading Planet scheme and Hachette Children’s Group were distributed in 25 primary schools.

Our aim was to support the most disadvantaged children and schools in improving their early reading skills and developing a lifelong love of reading.  During academic year 2021-2022, groups of children from across the schools participated in regular reading sessions using the donated books. They were then then assessed using our PiRA tests.
