Last term, we launched a nationwide competition for schools to win a visit from a Reading Planet author. We received HUNDREDS of entries from across the country. After much deliberation, the winners have now been chosen and the tour kicks off next week!
Meeting an author in the flesh is such an inspiring experience for children, helping to develop a lifelong love of reading and writing. We’re thrilled to offer schools the chance to meet one of our brilliant authors. We'll be visiting so many different schools across the UK from Torquay to Glasgow, reaching children in schools where authors might not usually visit such as rural Cumbria. It's going to be an amazing few weeks!
Our team of authors are ready and raring to go. They will be sharing their new Reading Planet books with the winning schools as well as their top writing tips. Follow the tour action on Twitter at #ReadingPlanetTour
Ross Montgomery, author of The Finney Island Files series: "I'm so looking forward to taking Ash and The Finney Island Files to schools for the first time. I love seeing the amazing imaginative ideas that children come up with, and this will be their chance to create their own funny fantastical characters with descriptive writing. I can't wait!"
Abie Longstaff, author of The Pocket Elf series: "Visiting schools is a huge part of my work.
I love brainstorming with the children. I aim to provide a space where they don't need to spell properly or write neatly. I just want them dreaming, imagining, thinking, plotting. Freed from the constraints of paper and pen, even the most reluctant reader/writers come up with crazy, twisty-turny, interesting, original ideas."

Gareth P. Jones, author of the Project series: "Visiting schools is a genuine highlight of my job. I am looking forward to this tour because I will be asking pupils to create their own stories based on the same premise as my Project series: an ordinary child with an ordinary problem comes up with an extraordinary solution. I hope and expect to hear some amazing story ideas."

Gillian Philip, author of the Class of the Titans series: “I’m so much looking forward to visiting Corpus Christi. The great thing about talking about myths and legends is that young readers still love these stories every bit as much as I always did.”
Joe Craig, author of the World of Robots series: 'I was always a reluctant and impatient re
ader. I was the one that nobody could convince to read a book. So I want to show people in school a new way of looking at stories, at books and at writing. I want to inspire everyone - even the impatient readers - to look for the stories that light up their imagination. And to give them a writer's tools so they can come up with their own.'
