More primary pupils reach the highest standards in the SATs 2019

On 5th September 2019, the DfE announced that more pupils in England are reaching the highest standard of reading, writing and maths in this years SATs.

In summary:

  • 65% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths (combined)

  • 11% of pupils  reached the higher standard in reading, writing and maths (combined)

  • 85% of pupils who met the phonics standard in KS1 attained the expected standard in KS2

  • The attainment gap has decreased by 13% since 2011 between disadvantaged pupils and their peers
