The Best Educational Shows For Homeschooling Children

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, parents up and down the country are currently homeschooling their children for the first time. This can be a daunting task, with pressure to keep the same structure that the children are used to at school.
We have a wide range of books and resources available across a variety of subjects that could help with this. However, there are also some brilliant TV shows, podcasts and YouTube channels out there that are educational and can help to support your child’s independent learning at this time.

The BBC is currently focusing on producing a whole range of educational content for the lockdown period. Alice Webb, director of BBC Children's & Education said: "It's vital that every child is able to continue learning - and the lessons we're putting on will make sure they have fun at the same time."
There will be various lessons across many subjects, hosted by some familiar celebrity faces. However, if you’re looking for daily content, BBC Bitesize is hosting Bitesize Daily programmes each weekday for learners aged 5-14. You can watch these 20 minute lessons either on iPlayer, or via the red button on your TV.

For something a bit more entertaining, Netflix has a whole host of children’s TV shows currently streaming. Ask The Storybots is a great option for the child who has a natural curiosity about life. The show follows some friendly robots as they venture on a journey to answer questions that have been submitted by real children. Questions include ‘why do people look different?’ and ‘how do eyes see?’ to name a few.
Horrible Histories is another great option. Based on the best-selling books, the series features comedy sketches of some of the most memorable moments in history - educational, and entertaining!

It’s not only important to concentrate on your child’s mind, but also their physical fitness. PE with Joe has been a firm favourite in households up and down the country throughout lockdown so far. Joe Wicks, aka ‘The Body Coach’, is streaming free daily workouts on his YouTube channel at 9am Monday-Friday. They last half an hour and are a great way to kick start your child’s day. No equipment needed, just turn up and have fun!
