We are onto a winner with Champions!

We are thrilled to announce that the recently published Champions, a whole-school resource to support outstanding PE teaching, has won the prestigious Whole Curriculum Subject Resource of the Year Award at the Education Resources Awards 2016.

The Rising Stars team had a great evening and were delighted to take the stage to receive the award!

What the judges said:

“Rising Stars’ Champions is an impressive pack including case studies that introduce this programme to everything that is PE and at a really welcome, cost-effective price.” ERA Judges

Champions is a whole-school sport, health and fitness programme that is fully in line with the new curriculum. The idea for Champions was originally inspired by an approach developed at Ark Bentworth and Ark Conway academy schools and was developed by Rising Stars and Ark together. Champions is designed to support every primary teacher in the delivery of high-quality PE lessons, covering sport, fitness and healthy living.

I’m delighted that Champions has been recognised in this way. The combined expertise of the teams from Ark Bentworth, Ark Conway and Rising Stars has resulted in a high-quality resource which is already transforming PE teaching in primary schools around the country. Damian McBeath, Regional Director for Primary Ark Schools, London

"I was not surprised by Champions winning the ERA award last week, as the transformation of Physical Education within my school has been staggering. It is our second year of the scheme, and not only are we seeing the physical, health and mental benfits of our individual children, but our school teams are having success in the local area too!" Dan King, Year 5 Class Teacher and PE Leader, Corpus Christi Primary School

"Champions is written by teachers for teachers which is a big advantage, it is a resource that any primary PE teacher can pick up and run with. The online package is a great back up to the written text. The programme is very diverse which enables children to experience a wide range of physical activities and develop the crucial fundamental movement skills needed to help create our physically literate child. The programme also encompasses the development of our creative, thinking and social skills which is so important in the whole development of children.
The quality and consistency of what is delivered is guaranteed if the programme is used and teachers seem to  like the layout and simplicity of the planned lessons.
The children enjoy the variety of the lessons and are very enthused when experiencing new activities."

With schools under increasing scrutiny from OFSTED when it comes to using the PE and Sport Premium, a resource such as Champions makes it easier for schools to demonstrate that they are making ‘additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer’ (OFSTED).
