DfE response to the consultation on assessment and accountability now out

After a considerable wait, the DfE has finally published the response to the consultation on primary school assessment and accountability which ended in October last year.

The document includes analysis of the consultation responses and also sets out the Government’s plans. As expected National Curriculum Levels are being discontinued (this issue was not within the scope of the consultation).

Other key features are:

  • new more challenging tests to reflect the increased challenge of the new National Curriculum
  • raised expectations of primary schools including the introduction of a new floor standard involving a new assessment that pupils will take shortly after they start school in Reception.
