Rising Stars’ first two resources were two revision guides: Achieve Level 5 English and Achieve Level 5 Maths, edited in the spare bedroom of my house in Bromley and published with much trepidation in 2002. I can hardly believe that was fourteen years ago. A big thank you if you ever bought a copy – back then every £3 was treasured, and then spent on printing more copies.

Achieve, a bit like Rising Stars, has grown up a lot since then. The Achieve books went through umpteen editions and were joined by posters, teachers’ books, whiteboard software and quizzes, all focussed on helping children prepare for the national tests. At last count, over 1.2m Achieve revision and practice books had been printed; on responsibly sourced paper, of course!

I’m fortunate enough to have brilliant colleagues and they have spent the last year or so developing the latest generation of Achieve resources – Achieve Online Mathematics. Achieve Online has been created to give children online access to online ‘animated tutorials’ that show children how to tackle all the different maths question types they are likely to encounter in the new national tests. There are interactive practice quizzes with instant feedback, virtual star charts and reports for teachers too.

As this is a new venture for us, we want to get it right. So we are making Achieve Online – Mathematics completely free until next July. You just need to sign up your school by the end of September. This is not a clever ruse to trap you into a subscription. Far from it; we genuinely want your feedback. You know what works for your Year 6 children as they revise and we would like to be able to take your views on board so we can make the site as good as it can possibly be.
I really hope you can help us! If you want to know more then click here to find out about getting Achieve Online Mathematics free for your school.
Or if you prefer, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks as always and best wishes for the rest of term,
MD and Founder
