On 10th July 2018, the DfE published the results of the 2018 Key Stage 2 National Tests.
Summary of the 2018 results
- 64% of pupils reached the expected standard in all of reading, writing and maths (combined). This has increased from last year but remains below the floor standard of 65%.
- The raw scores required to reach the expected standard have increased for all subjects. The largest increase can be seen in maths, increasing from 57 in 2017 to 61 this year.
- The average scaled score in reading has increased, while the scaled score in maths and GPS remains the same as last year.
2018 raw scores and scaled score conversion tables
This year the raw scores required to reach the expected standard have increased across all subjects, with the biggest increase seen in maths. The marks required to achieve the expected standard in the 2018 SATs are:
- Reading - 28 out of 50 (increasing from 26 in 2017)
- Maths - 61 out of 110 (increasing from 57 in 2017)
- GPS - 38 out of 70 (increasing from 36)
The average scaled score in reading has increased to 105, while the scaled score remains at 104 for maths and 106 GPS.
The DfE have published the scaled score conversion tables for the 2018 KS2 national tests.
Attainment in individual subjects
- In reading, 75% of pupils reached the expected standard, up by 4 percentage points from 2017.
- In maths, 76% of pupils reached the expected standard, up by 1 percentage point.
- In GPS, 78% of pupils reached the expected standard, up by 1 percentage point.
Attainment in reading, writing and maths (combined)
This year, 64% of pupils reached the expected standard in all of reading, writing and maths, showing an increase from 61% of pupils in 2017 and 53% in 2016.*
*The DfE have advised that attainment in all of reading, writing and maths (combined) is not directly comparable to previous years because of changes to the TA frameworks.
