This blog piece has been written by Igor and Sofia, pupils from St Thomas More Catholic Primary School, after winning a day’s workshop from Brian Moses for their entry into the Poetry by Heart competition.
When Brian Moses visited St Thomas More Catholic Primary School, he performed to the whole school in assembly. He acted out some of his favourite poems with instruments. For instance, Brian read “I Go Ape!”, “Phantom Kiss” and “Snake Hotel” and many more.
Alex in Year 3 said, “The performance was fantastic because I’ve never met a real poet before.”
Later on, he did special workshops with years 2, 3 and 6. With each year group, he gave us a specific poem and the children had to make another poem using the same structure. In Year 2, Brian read the children a simile, Year 3 were focusing on rhythm poems and Year 6 did a narrative poem. The children found it fun and exciting while the teachers found it very interesting and educational.
We asked some children in Years 2, 3 and 6 what they thought about Brian and here is what they said:
Tom in Year 2 said, “Brian Moses really helped us to describe things and we had a lot of fun!”
In Year 3, Joe said, “Brian Moses was really funny and helped us with adding rhythm to our poems.”
We enjoyed Brian’s visit immensely and would welcome him if he came again.
