You may be aware that at Rising Stars we hold several focus groups with teachers each term to gain feedback on how we can improve our resources and to generate ideas for new publishing that will make an impact on teaching and learning.
This is one of the reasons we love BETT so much, as it’s effectively the UK’s biggest focus group of teachers! We loved speaking with so many of you on our stand and getting such valuable feedback.
You told us you were visiting the show to help you:
· find new curriculum assessments to support your assessment policies
· discover new tools and software to help engage reluctant learners
· cover the requirements of the computing curriculum
We now have a comprehensive suite of new curriculum assessments available for schools, from topic and half-termly tests to standardised assessments and end-of-year papers in the style of the national tests. New for BETT was Rising Stars Assessment Bank, our online bank of quality test questions for the new curriculum, which can be used to build bespoke tests or simply to search for questions to put to children as they learn.
What you really loved was the powerful and speedy search tools and how easy it is to find and re-order questions to meet the needs of your children. It was great to hear so many of you are moving away from old test papers (see Deputy Head Michael Tidd’s article on this) and are looking to use new curriculum questions going forwards to best prepare your children. Rising Stars Assessment Bank will be launching tomorrow and we can’t wait to get your feedback.
We also launched Switched on Minecraft at BETT which generated quite a buzz! All the guidance to set up a secure Minecraft environment and 18 cross-curricular activities tied to the new programmes of study. You knew at a glance this would help to engage your reluctant learners, to write ration books for their air-raid shelters, build symmetrical sports stadiums and so much more. Switched on Minecraft will be publishing in April so watch this space!
Teachers from across the globe came to BETT looking for support for teaching computing skills. We often hear the children feel more confident with certain areas of computing than their teachers and so we developed Switched on Computing, the award-winning programme covering all the requirements of the new computing curriculum, with expert-written CPD videos to give teachers all the confidence they need. Those of you already using the programme were really excited to get your hands on our Learn to Code Practice Books, ideal for independent practice and coding clubs.
We were thrilled that these hot new products led to Teach Primary giving Rising Stars the number 1 spot in their Best in Show review!
All your feedback, constructive and complementary, is really appreciated and helps us to ensure we continue to publish the resources you want and need. Thank you for popping by and we look forward to seeing many of you at further events throughout the year.
