Your current Year 5 pupils will be the first cohort to sit to the new Key Stage National Tests in English and mathematics in May 2016.
We already know some important facts about the new National Tests:
85% of your pupils will be expected to achieve a new scaled score of 100 to reach the new higher standard.
Originally we were led to believe that this new higher standard would be broadly equivalent to a level 4b. Now we know that this is not the case. The Programmes of Study are much more demanding and as such the contents of the National Tests will be significantly more demanding as well.
By May 2016, in order to reach the new required standard, your current Year 5 pupils will need to have been taught, learned and applied some content that is new to Year 5 (and Year 6), including some previously taught to higher year groups in Key Stage 3.
To give your teachers and your pupils the best chance in the new National Tests it is very important to start preparing them now. To help you we have put together a FREE Year 5 English National Test Survival Pack to help you give your Year 5 pupils the best chance of success in the tests in 2016. The Survival Pack includes:
New Curriculum Progression Frameworks for Year 5 English which includes clear statements of progress in English against which you can check your pupil’s progress over the course of the year.
A summary of the key areas of the new English curriculum for Year 3 and 4 which your current Year 5 children may have missed.
