Unit 3.3 introduction: We are animators

Creating a cartoon

About this unit

Software:   Scratch / Microsoft PowerPoint®

Outcome:    A short, scripted animated cartoon

Do your children like watching cartoons? Do they have a favourite cartoon character? This unit provides an opportunity for children to create their own animated cartoon, using characters they create themselves. Earlier bitmap graphics work is reinforced as children use a simple paint tool to create characters and backgrounds. They translate a storyboard idea for their animation into a series of scripted instructions for graphic objects on the computer. This familiarity with sequencing control instructions will be important for later sequencing units.
