Jane Maloney, Science adviser
Dr Jane Maloney is the Deputy Director Primary at the STEM* Education Centre London (SECL) which was established by the Institute of Education to offer professional development to the science education community. The Centre evolved from the highly successful Science Learning Centre London where Jane led the programme for primary science. She continues to develop the programme of CPD courses for primary teachers aimed at preparing them for the new science curriculum scheduled to start in September 2014. Prior to working on CPD programmes Jane was a lecturer in primary science at Kingston University and was a school teacher for 14 years. Her main interests are improving teachers’ subject knowledge and developing activities that promote children’s thinking.
Shân Oswald, Science adviser
Shân Lives has over 20 years teaching experience in a number of schools across all age ranges with a range of responsibilities. She was part of the science team for National Strategies for 7 years and has been writing educational materials for over fifteen years. Her areas of specialism include science, SEN, thinking skills, school improvement and governor training.
