Maddy Barnes, Assistant Head Teacher, Sacred Heart Catholic School and English Consultant
Maddy Barnes is a part-time literacy consultant providing bespoke training and INSET for schools and alliances in the North West. Maddy is an experienced KS2 Reading, GPS and Level 6 marker. She regularly works for the DFE on the teacher panel for test development and has been a lead for future assessments there. 

Maddy is an established author and series editor at Rising Stars (Skills Builders, GPS Practice Papers and Achieve) and provides insight training sessions for schools. She is a learning consultant and author for the BBC (written resource pack for Chris Evans 500 words competition, co-written scripts for online resource videos and material for GPS game shows). She is passionate about using real texts, including high quality picture books, to encourage all pupils to make progress. 

Maria Richards, Independent Literacy Consultant
Maria Richards has worked as a Primary school teacher in both Devon and Somerset, teaching all through the primary phase. She has worked both as a Numeracy and Literacy Subject Leader and as a Leading Literacy Teacher. In 2006, Maria joined the advisory service for Somerset County Council as a National Strategy Consultant for Literacy, where she worked closely with schools to raise attainment in Literacy, as well as training teachers in the National Strategy materials. Since October 2010, Maria has worked freelance as a literacy consultant, continuing to have strong relationships with schools. She regularly works in schools on long term packages, working intensively with staff and children to achieve success. Maria has now also joined the national Talk for Writing team as a Primary Expert, working directly with leading Educational Consultant Pie Corbett to raise standards in writing across the country.
