"Cracking Comprehension has resulted in all children in Year 6, (56 pupils) achieving a minimum of 100 on the scaled score and an average scaled score for the cohort of 109.1."
Mrs Hodgson, Y6 teacher, Blackburn The Redeemer CEP
How to use Cracking Comprehension
Step 1: Introduce the text, then read the story with the class – either as a group or using the audio read-through.
Step 2: Use your whiteboard tools to select a question, then discuss and highlight the key parts to ensure understanding.
Step 3: Interrogate the text with the class, highlighting the clues and evidence needed to answer the selected question. Copy these to the notepad.
Step 4: Crack it! Look through the evidence and encourage children to agree and write an answer. Check it against the model response.
